It is not even December, but this once stylish, vibrant New Yorker, has found myself sadly very ill, and on Disability. I am fortunate that after a few Ivy League degrees, and common sense, I had always opted for private disability insurance...and at 30 years old, will have to be on it for the foreseeable future. My husband, a surgery resident, also has a smaller income, so we are going to learn to live on less.
This will be hard. We used to eat out every day. I shopped constantly. Attended private Tiffany & Co and Graff parties, and loved my Lanvin flats, my J.Crew sprees....and Chanel makeup at Bloomingdale's in Midtown Manhattan....
So my question is, can I actually be happier on less? Can I become a person healthy (for my condition), eat well, and in lieu of buying a lot, enjoying the things I have? And repairing them? Caring for them? and selectively purchasing new things?
I am not sure how well I will do. For one, I am not a fan of finding faux or knock-off items. But I do not mind scouring the Upper East Side Goodwill for a Cashmere Max Mara coat...
Pictures of my current wardrobe, deficiencies and jewels will follow tonight!
